The Cuckoo Clocks Of The Black Forest - The Longstanding Legacy Of Excellence
The cuckoo clocks that we encounter today still retain that authentic Black Forest essence that has captured our interest and admiration for decades. Modern versions have already been presented, but nothing seems to exceed the beauty and performance of the traditional cuckoo clocks. The cuckoo clocks produced in the Black Forest are truly world class creations.
There are different ways on how to determine the quality of the cuckoo clocks that you’re planning to buy. Since online shopping doesn’t exactly let you get a firsthand look at the product, you’ll have to rely on the description given to guide you in your decision. And the first thing you want to look for is the type of clock movement that’s built into the cuckoo clock. If you see Hermle and Kieninger – the two major German clock movement manufacturers – then you’re in good hands.
The authentic Black Forest cuckoo clocks are fitted with mechanical clock movements, which are categorized into two types: 1-Day clock movement and 8-Day clock movement. Basically, clocks with the 1-Day movement have to be wound up every 24 hours while the 8-Day movement clocks are wound up at the end of the week. The clock’s function is determined by two metal weights (usually resemble two pine cones) that are hanging freely beneath the casing. Once these weights reach the floor, you’ll have to carefully yank the brass chains so that it’ll return to its original state.
Quartz movement clocks are considered outside the standards of an original Black Forest cuckoo clock. But these still function almost as well as the original and have some added benefits as well. If you don’t want to be disturbed by the cuckoo call when you sleep, there are two things that you can do to solve that problem. First is to make sure that the clock is placed somewhere that’s far away from bedrooms. The second option is to buy the kind that has a night shut-off feature. The night shut-off system can either be done manually by turning a lever or the clock could just automatically shut itself off. Not all products are built with this system, so make sure to check the product details. Frankly speaking, you can’t really expect that all of these clocks will be cheap, especially if you’re planning to buy the original. A realistic budget would have to be somewhere between $50 up to $4,000 plus (that’s just the cost of the product). You also have to consider the handling, shipping, and insurance (if applicable) fees. There are also different clock details that would influence the price, which could include the size, type and brand of clock movement, wood carving details, number of figurines and melodies, and other extra features. Before making any purchases, make sure to check the VDS certificates of the cuckoo clocks just to be sure that you’re buying an original. |
